The Royal Family attended a church service amid heightened police security checks for wellwishers at Sandringham2.
Officers with handheld scanners even checked a little girl and a baby in a pram as all arrivals were subjected to extensive searches.
The Queen3, the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry were among attendees for the traditional Sunday service at St Mary Magdalene Church.
Experts who watched the scenes outside said the extent of police checks at the Queen’s Norfolk home was “unprecedented” compared with previous years.
Unlike on Christmas Day4, the Sunday service is not considered a public appearance by the Royals.
The Duchess wore a tailored skirt suit for the event as she walked to the church with her husband and father-in-law, which the Queen arrived at church by car.
A spokesman for the Queen said: “This was a private attendance .
The Queen continues to worship over the festive period.”
There were smaller crowds than there had been at the Christmas Day service, when around 1,000 well-wishers, some wearing festive jumpers and Union flag fancy dress, lined the roads for hours.
The Metropolitan Police, which is in overall charge of Royal security, said it would not comment on levels of security .
It is understood the checks were carried out by local officers from Norfolk Police.
