In some cases otherworldly experiences can be life changing.
Andy knows this all too well The 41-year-old who works in security had finished visiting his last location – a stately home.
“Nobody’s getting in there now” he would tell himself each time he left a property.
Andy’s military background had instilled his high level of attention to detail. As he was heading home, something caught his attention.

It was an alarm.
And he feared the worst an intruder.
As the high pitched alarm continued to shriek, Andy pulled over sharply.
He didn’t have much time so he sped back to the house.
Once at the gates of the magnificent frontage, he killed the engine.
He walked along the grass verge and reached the large side door.
As he made his way through the dark, still corridors, he opened the doors to each room.
Methodically, he entered and checked each one before leaving and firmly shutting each door.
The sprawling property had three levels, Andy had managed to secure the bottom two.
Walking up the final staircase he looked along the corridor.
Moonlight was shining through a window at the other end.
He systematically searched each room before firmly closing every door.
Being a military man, Andy was not easily unnerved, but an indescribable feeling came over him his breathing became erratic and his chest tightened. Halfway down the corridor a door slammed shut.
He stayed close to the darkest side of the corridor up against the wall.
He knew what he had to do.
He was paid to protect exclusive premises and their priceless contents; it was his job to detain intruders.
He knew there was someone with him.
His body began to shake as he felt his adrenaline kicking in.
Andy thought about turning on his torch but he was anxious not to give away his presence.
If he was going to catch this intruder, he would need the element of surprise.
Trembling, he approached the door which had slammed shut.
He walked in.
Nothing was out of place.
But he needed to check the walk-in wardrobe.
Slowly but confidently he pulled open the door – all clear.
He turned to leave but the door slammed shut.
He sped towards the staircase to the second floor and there he saw something that shook him to the core.
Every single one of the doors he had carefully closed were now open – the dark voids behind each one now visible.
Was someone trying to taunt him?
Trying to rationalise what was happening, he thought they could be trying to confuse him hiding in plain sight.
He heard footsteps rushing across the floor below. Andy shot downstairs, trying to follow them.
He find all the other doors were wide open too.
He had to catch the intruder before they got away. Reaching the ground floor, his stomach turned.
All of the doors he closed just minutes before, were open; just like on the other floors.
The footsteps stopped. An eerie silence overcame the corridor.
All Andy could hear was the old house creaking and the wind outside.
Then there was moment Andy will never forget.
He said: “It felt like I was in a void.
“I couldn’t hear the wind or the building creaking
“Everything stopped.”
There was an almighty crash as every door slammed shut.
The entire situation went against all of Andy’s beliefs.
He had seen doors slam in front of his eyes and he had heard a dozen more shut above.
He bolted; stumbling towards his car.
Then, glancing forward at the open door and the dark corridor it exposed, it too slammed shut, in front of his headlights.
Andy has seen many things in his life, but none that will affect him more than the night he was exposed to the ferocious power and unpredictability of the paranormal.
