Witnesses said that after the man broke through security, he knelt down in front of a woman and begged her to stay.
The woman, later identified as his girlfriend Xiao, was said to have looked at him briefly before going through the boarding gate with her mother.
Jiang, meanwhile, was surrounded by airport security, who later escorted him into a police detention where he was kept for five days.
After investigation, police learnt that Jiang and his girlfriend both graduated from the same college.
Xiao’s parents didn’t want her to stay in Shenyang, or to be with Jiang.
They were able to persuade her to break up with Jiang and was taking her back to her home city of Chongqing 1,566 miles away, which prompted Jiang’s desperate act.
