SUNBURY We know a bit more about the incident that led to the FBI being called to investigate a threat in Sunbury. The FBI gave the all clear Friday after the report of the threat came from a non U.S. citizen living in the municipality on a visa.
The threat to a city organization Christmas party was considered credible. Sunbury Police chief Brad Hare said the federal agency returned calls to his department after Sunbury officials reached out to FBI investigators.
Hare said the FBI declared it a misunderstanding, saying the comments were taken out of context. The threat was reported to the Northumberland County 911 center at about 8 p.m.
Thursday.
Sunbury Mayor David Persing says the citizen s call police was the right thing to do in this situation, That s exactly what we need to do. A little more vigilance in the country and that s what it s going to take to keep us safer on the streets, so that person did a good job.
Persing says there is nothing for residents to worry about regarding the incident, There s nothing to worry about. There s no threat in the City of Sunbury as far as that goes.
I think it s encouraging to know that our police department does take all of these serious.
Hare said we wouldn t release the name of the organizations, the building or that of the Sunbury resident involved due to security reasons.
