The nominations for the 43rd Annual Annie Awards have been announced. Pixar dominated the list as “” led the pack with 14 nods. It was followed by another Pixar animation, “”, which scored 10 nominations.
“Inside Out” competed against “”, “”, “” and the “” movie for Best Animated Feature. If one of the Pixar movies ends up winning the award, it will be the first time that Pixar wins the category since 2009, when “” took home the gong. “Inside Out” was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement, Animated Effects in an Animated Production.
In this category, “Inside Out” faced other acclaimed animated films like “”, “”, “”, “The Good Dinosaur” and “”. Additionally, “Inside Out” was up against other animations for best character design, character animation and production design. Although “Inside Out” garnered rave reviews and was successful at the box office, there is another animation that may be a strong opponent for the movie.
Although it only has five nominations, stop-motion animation “Anomalisa”, which is dark, complex and made for adult audiences, may be a big rival for “Inside Out”. In TV categories, Disney Television Animation got the most nominations with 21, followed by Nickelodeon with 16 and DreamWorks TV Animation with 14. “”, with seven nods, dominated the list and was followed by “Dragons: Race to the Edge” and “Pig Goat Banana Cricket”, which scored five each.
