Thames Valley Police leaders say they are delighted the Government have abandoned planned cuts to police budgets next year.
The Conservative leadership was expected to slash police funding for frontline services, but Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne last Wednesday announced a major U-turn during his Autumn Statement.
Following the Paris terror attacks in which 130 people died on November 13 as well as security threats in Belgium and across Europe this month, Mr Osborne announced in Parliament last Wednesday no cuts would be made to policing over the next year.
Thames Valley s Police and Crime Commissioner Anthony Stansfield said: I am absolutely delighted that the very large cuts that were planned for policing have not gone ahead.
I am pleased that senior politicians have listened and the adverse impact of the cuts has been recognised.
Chief Constable Francis Habgood previously said he was unsure how significant cuts would impact Oxfordshire s policing and it was unclear how much would be taken from the police budget.
He added Thames Valley Police have saved 58 million in total over the last four years and 13m in 2015.
Ch Con Habgood said: I am pleased to hear that the Chancellor has acknowledged the need to protect police services by deciding not to make further cuts to police budgets in the next year.
Today is a good day for our communities and Thames Valley Police but we must also remember that we are still in times of austerity and we will continue to have some difficult choices to make about how allocate our resources according to local priorities.
We will continue to ensure that we maximise every opportunity to prevent crime, protect the public and bring offenders to justice.
After gunmen and suicide bombers targeted venues across Paris, Prime Minister David Cameron also announced plans boosting funding for UK security services to hire 1,900 extra security and intelligence staff.
Mr Osborne said: The government will protect overall police spending in real terms over the spending review period.
This will provide funding to maintain overall police force budgets at current cash levels.
The Government is taking steps to enable police officers to spend more time fighting crime.
