Six black students have been asked to leave a store over concerns they might steal something , in an incident which appears to have racist motivations.

The incident at an Apple store in Highpoint shopping centre, north-west Melbourne, was caught on video and uploaded to Facebook on Tuesday night.

The footage has since been viewed almost 47,000 times, sparking outrage at what most viewers are calling ‘blatant racism’.

When the boys, taken aback, asked for what reason they were being asked to leave, security responded: They re just a bit worried you might steal something.

The six boys all gasped.

In the Facebook post, one of the boys said the argument between them lasted 15 minutes.

‘He was circling us for 10 minutes while we were in the store,’ one of the boys wrote on the Facebook post.

The boys, who are Year 10 students at Maribyrnong College, in inner-west Melbourne, according to Sydney Morning Herald³, later got an apology from the store.

‘They called security but the guy ended up apologising to us,’ one wrote, with Apple security calling security at Highpoint shopping centre.

‘The Highpoint guards were nice as, it was just the Apple employees & security that were acting up,’ another posted in the comment thread.

When many were understandably outraged at the video footage and suggested taking complaints further, the six boys appeared to be in good spirits.

‘They apologised so we’re chilling no need to take this further,’ one commented.

Another joked: ‘I’m not in the financial status to take Apple to court.’

‘We just wanted to show people the prejudice we went through and the racial profiling of the Apple staff and security.’

According to SMH, Maribyrnong College principal Nick Scott accompanied the six boys to the Apple store on Wednesday afternoon, and a senior manager apologised.

It was reportedly a private security guard hired by Apple who first raised concerns about the teenagers, and an Apple employee shown in the video speaking with the boys.

An Apple spokesperson told SMH they were committed to cultural diversity and inclusion, and said they were looking into the situation.

Daily Mail Australia have contacted Apple for comment.

The six boys all gasped when they were told to leave over concerns they ‘might steal something’ .
