‘I’d love to redeem myself with Jennifer Lawrence

| e-mail 1 View comments What is your earliest memory? Listening to the Top 40 countdown on Sundays on Radio 1. It was a huge deal in my house.

My nan and pop would come over. The first song that really got me was The Only Way Is Up by Yazz. I remember being in my dressing gown, singing along to it, and my nan just laughing and clapping with me.

What sort of child were you? Cheeky, smiley, sporty and always wanting to be in a crowd. I wasn t academic in any way.

I would listen to the teachers for the first few minutes and then drift off, which is exactly what happens to me in meetings now. What has been your biggest achievement? I would say going on The X Factor, but that s not really true.

The achievement is still being here seven years later. 'I worry that I m never going to meet someone, never going to have kids and never have a family' And your biggest disappointment? The situation with my twin brother, Ben Murs fell out with him when he missed Ben s wedding in order to appear on the X Factor semi-finals in 2009. To have a rift in the family is the most devastating thing.

There s a song on my album called Grow Up, where I sing the line: Someday I hope we can fix it, I ain t too proud to try . That is true I d like to believe one day we can sort things out. Who would be your dream dinner date?

Jennifer Lawrence. I was on a Radio 1 show and told the host I fancied her. She was coming in the next day to promote a movie, and they said I could meet her.

It was terrible. She turned up with her two male co-stars and I sat in the room asking stupid questions like some tongue-tied 19-year-old fan boy. I d like to take her to a nice Indian restaurant and try to redeem myself.

What is your best trait? I like to think I look after people. I ve worked hard enough to be able to pay off my parents mortgage.

It meant more than having some incredible holiday. What are you scared of? I worry that I m never going to meet someone, never going to have kids and never have a family.

My relationship ended last year for many reasons, but a lot to do with work coming first. I don t know how to resolve that. What is your biggest regret?

Not learning to play a musical instrument. I started playing the guitar before The X Factor but then singing took over. I look at people who can play an instrument and I m in total awe.

What is the worst thing that anyone has ever said to you? That I ve changed. A mate said it to me and he s not my mate any more.

I make a massive effort to do the things I ve always done. The other week after doing gigs in Germany I got back to London, went out with my mates for a drink, got up the next day to get on a coach to Norfolk to watch my team, Coggeshall Town FC play, came back and then went out to play a gig. The most important thing to me is to stay grounded.

What is your most treasured possession? My house in Essex. Bricks and mortar are my only security.

I don t believe in pensions. My grandad paid into one all his life and ended up only getting half of it. Who would you like to say sorry to and why?

I used to play football semi-professionally, but I injured my knee. The night I injured it I was supposed to be taking a girl out on a date. I got in the car and drove to her house, rang on the doorbell and then just said I couldn t face it and limped back to my car.

I m very sorry. What is your guiltiest pleasure? Peanut butter on crumpets.

I know that at some point in my life I m going to get really fat. It s in the Murs genes. Olly Murs s new album 24 Hrs is out now FILM, BOOKS AND TV Last film you saw?

Deepwater Horizon. It s incredible. But the lights went up during the credits, when it showed the real guys who died.

I thought it was disrespectful. Last book you read? I don t read.

But the last book was Best Chat-Up Lines Of All Time, which my mum gave my 17-year-old nephew. Last TV show you loved? Game Of Thrones.

It took me a while to get all the names, but now I m obsessed.
