Police hunt "broken bottle" attackers as security guard assaulted in Morrison’s car park at Newquay

Police are hunting two men who assaulted a security guard in the car park of Morrison’s supermarket at Newquay.

The attack happened in broad daylight and involved a broken bottle, used as a weapon.

A police statement said officers were “appealing for witnesses to an incident that happened between 10:40am and 10:50am on Sunday the 16th of October 2016 in the car park of Morrison’s Supermarket Treloggan Road, Newquay.

“The incident involved a security guard being assaulted by two unknown males, one of which used a smashed bottle as a weapon . If you have any information please ring 101 and quote crime number: CR/073418/16.”

The incident follows a spate of crimes in supermarket car parks across Cornwall3 . Police had previously warned that victims – in some cases elderly women – have purchased goods in a supermarket or used a cash point, as a suspect has watched them enter their PIN number.

When the victims have returned to their vehicles, they have been approached by someone asking for directions to the nearest hospital or similar location.

Then, while the victim is distracted, someone else has got into their vehicle and stolen their bank cards.
