Two squatters were hurled into busy traffic during a fight with security staff attempting to evict them in Manchester city centre1 . A huge brawl broke out between the protesters, who are currently being removed from their grassy patch opposite the Ducie Bridge in Corporation Street, after being chucked out of the empty pub last night2 (Tuesday). Our reporter Andrew Bardsley is at the scene, and videos show punches being thrown and people screaming at each other during the dramatic stand off this afternoon (Wednesday).

The squatters made the derelict city centre pub their home for two months, before being evicted yesterday (Tuesday), when they pitched up tents on a grassy verge opposite. Bailiffs entered the empty Ducie Bridge pub in Corporation Street on Tuesday morning to reclaim the space, which is set to transformed into a NOMA development after a police stand-off.

Security staff working for NOMA told the M.E.N last night that the squatters had been evicted for their own safety as there is asbestos within the building. But protesters believe moving them on is a violation of their human rights.
