ROAD closures around Cosgrove House are expected to be lifted later today, after a fire gutted the 18th century building yesterday afternoon. Over 50 firefighters tackled a large fire at the country mansion in Northamptonshire yesterday. A spokesman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’ve got a fire service presence today which remains until tomorrow.
“We are waiting on engineers to make sure the building it safe before we carry out any further investigation, as there are three standing chimneys at the house with potential to collapse.
“The hard closure of roads will probably be lifted today but there will be security on the gate of the house.”
Crews were called to the blaze at Cosgrove Hall, near to the Milton Keynes border, before at around 2pm. All roads leading into Cosgrove village from the A508 were closed by police, while the firefighters attended the scene. At 5pm, images showed the roof and upper level of the private eight-bed house, which is Grade II listed, engulfed in flames.
But by 5.30pm – when the fire was finally put out – the whole hall was gutted by the fire, leaving only the brickwork standing.
Nobody was reported injured in the blaze.
