Gertie was being walked by owner John Dooner on Freshwater East beach, Pembrokeshire1, when he was stopped by a pensioner. The holidaymaker told John that his wife s false leg had been dragged into the sea and pleaded for helped.

The pensioner s wife had taken off both her false legs while sunbathing on the beach but one of the limbs was dragged into the sea by a giant wave. John unleashed his German shorthaired pointer after lobbing a stone in the direction of the leg.
The 18-month-old dog plunged into the sea and emerged with the fake limb.

A gathering crowd cheered as Gertie made his way onto the beach with the prosthetic leg. Artist John said: She saw the splash and dived into the water it s her favourite game.
She came back with the only thing that was floating the woman s leg.

The woman was delighted to get it back and Gertie is getting a big bone as a reward. The German tourist was on holiday in the Pembrokeshire area after she was stationed at the nearby Castlemartin Army range when she was younger
She and her husband made a big fuss of Gertie they said she was a real hero.
