A Dundee student has told how thieves stole his car just weeks after he d moved to the city. Matthew O Gorman, 20, is appealing for information to help catch the man suspected of stealing his red Honda Civic Type-R while he was on a night out. The mechanical engineering student left his home on Larch Street around midnight on Wednesday to go to Liquid nightclub minutes down the road.
But when he got back home shortly after 3am, the car was gone. Matthew said: I can t tell you how I felt I want to know why he took the car in the first place. It s pretty low to do something like this.
The lease on my home started back in July but I ve only just moved in. I ve only had the car since March I loved it. It was great.
Matthew s mum Liz said she believes that police spotted the car in Dunfermline a short time after it had been stolen, but it sped off from officers. The driver was described as being in his early 20s, with either fair-coloured hair or a bald head.
The stolen car
Liz, 46, and dad Michael, 51, were alerted to the theft by police who stopped by their home in Dunfermline, where the car was still registered. Secretary Liz said: The police don t know who took it and Matthew only found out when he was home.
They don t know why it ended up in Dunfermline either. They said it was being driven really dangerously.
Michael, an estate manager for Fife Council, added: Matthew got the keys to the place a few months ago but he s only just moving in now for uni. The car was his pride and joy. The family are puzzled as to why the thief overlooked valuables, including several laptops, despite looking through every room in the house before making off with the hot hatch. Matthew said: They had been through the house and all the rooms, all the drawers were opened.
Nothing was taken laptops and everything were there and they didn t take them. It s like they went straight for the car. Michael added: They took his house keys as well they re both on the same keyring. They went through the rooms opening drawers and ignored the laptops it s all worth more than the car would be, I m sure. A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: Police Scotland is appealing for information after a car was stolen from Larch Street, Dundee, sometime between midnight on Wednesday and 3am on Thursday.
The red Honda Civic would bear the registration mark NK54 SYA when stolen.
The car was seen a short time later in the Dunfermline area and officers are keen to speak to a man described as in his early 20s with fair-coloured hair or a bald head.
Anyone who knows where the stolen car is now is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
