DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. Investigators on Friday released new information about the double homicide that occurred Thursday night in Davidson County.
Sheriff David Grice said the deaths of 82-year-old Davie Lee McSwain and 78-year-old Joan McSwain1 were the result of an assault. The apparent motive was robbery some areas of the house had been ransacked.
Davidson County Sheriff s deputies were called to the home at 362 Garcia Kennedy Road by family members, who made a daily visit to the home and found the couple dead.
Authorities are now focusing on the couple s missing dark blue 2006 Chrysler Town and Country van with the license plate XRX 2142.
Officials are encouraging anyone who sees this van not to approach it and to notify law enforcement immediately.
Sheriff Grice said the McSwains have been taken to the N.C.
Medical Examiner s Office for autopsy.
He said 18 Sheriff s Office detectives and seven SBI agents have been involved in processing the crime scene and following leads.
Meanwhile, some neighbors off National Highway just outside of High Point were so shaken by the deaths that they took the day off and installed home security systems.
One pastor, who did not want to be identified, said he thought robbery might have been a motive and wanted to make sure his home was as secure as possible with the killer or killers still free.
Every neighbor spoke glowingly of David McSwain, saying he was a kind person who helped influence countless people in the community through his church and giving nature.
I’ve been to his house about twice and he treated me like family when I was there, said Bobby Hylton, who lived down the road from the McSwains.
Every time you see him out he would wave. He was the type of guy that would do anything for you if you asked him I believe.
Some neighbors said they heard gunshots in the neighborhood early Thursday morning, but the Sheriff s Office has not commented on whether either victim was shot.
