WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat1 has confirmed he will be keeping his security arrangements ‘under review’. Former Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox died after she was shot and stabbed outside her constituency surgery in June. One week later, Warrington North MP Helen Jones was in the process of reviewing her security measures.

And Mr Mowat has also been monitoring the situation closely ever since. He said: “Jo Cox’s death shocked all MPs. Everyone, whatever job they do, should have the right to feel safe at work.

“Jo was just doing what she did every week going out to help people in her community and make a difference to their lives.

“This is the sort of work that MPs of all parties are engaged in all the time but which rarely gets seen or covered.

“I keep my security arrangements under review at all times and I’m very grateful to Cheshire Police for their advice in this regard.

“I already operate an appointment-only system, as it is more efficient, but I don’t want to put people off approaching me if they have an issue they need help with.

“MPs have never needed to engage more with their constituents and I’m sure Jo would have been horrified if what happened to her was used as an excuse for us to withdraw from the communities we serve.”
