Residents of New Waltham are being asked to spell out what they would like to see their community pavilion used for in the future. Local people are being consulted about what facilities could be provided for them in the coming years. The parish council has taken over the management of that area of the village from North East Lincolnshire Council.
This was because, 18 months ago, New Waltham was in danger of losing the open space known as Greenlands playing fields because of austerity measures within NELC. This could have resulted in the building being closed down, the bowling green s grass being left uncut, the football pitches overgrown and the BMX track uninsured. The parish council decided to take over the management of the area and now operates it as tenants.
A number of football teams and a bowling team now play there and a drop-in for young people operates on Thursday nights. There is also a singing group on Mondays, regular car boot sales and a picnic-style event in August. CCTV has also been installed to try to provide extra security and to deter antisocial behaviour.
Parish council chairman Grahame Williams said: We are trying to get feedback from people in the village to find out what they want to use this area for.
There has been a pretty positive response.”
