NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) — Transportation Security Administration officers stopped a passenger who tried to take a loaded gun onto his flight from Norfolk to Chicago Tuesday. A spokeswoman for the TSA said the man from Virginia Beach had a .45 calibre semi-automatic handgun with six bullets in it. Officers stopped him at the checkpoint.
The incident had no effect on airport operations. A TSA officer who was at the checkpoint X-ray machine detected the gun which was inside a carry-on bag. TSA officers contacted the Norfolk Airport Authority Police.
The police officers confiscated the gun and issued the man a citation on a state weapons charge.
