London club Fabric to review security after drug deaths

London club Fabric has vowed to improve security, following the apparently drug-related deaths on its premises of two clubbers.

Two 18-year-old men died within nine weeks of each other earlier this year at the 2,500-capacity club in East London. The deaths led to the local Islington Council to temporarily suspend Fabric s licence, forcing it to close for 28 days. The closure caused Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to urge Fabric, the council and the Metropolitan Police to come together to try to implement a coherent policy around the safety of clubbers. embedded content Earlier today, Khan announced he wanted to appoint London s first Night Czar to work with authorities to create a formal policy to protect the capital s nightlife. Fabric said in a statement: We recognise that illegal drugs are a particular issue in the clubbing sphere, which many venues like ours have challenges in addressing. We have zero tolerance to drugs on the premises and, as recently as December last year, we were described by District Judge Allison in a court judgement as a beacon of best practice in managing this issue.

The statement went on to say Fabric is undertaking a thorough review in how to police its drug policy and promised it is working with the police and council to provide the safest possible environment for music lovers .
