Thieves stole 50,000 worth of Goodyear and Dunlop car tyres from a lorry parked on the northbound Watford Gap services
They cut two small holes cut in the side curtain and the security tag cut on the rear doors, before stealing the tyres. The driver of the lorry was asleep when the theft occurred at some point between 11pm on Monday, August 22 and 6am on Tuesday, August 23. Officers are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed a large goods vehicle parked close to a lorry or people acting suspiciously overnight at the services, to contact the police.
Drivers are being urged to be vigilant and to contact police if they see anything suspicious while parked in the services or nearby lay-bys. Officers are sharing information with neighbouring forces to help identify those responsible and alert drivers to be cautious. Anyone with information can contact Northamptonshire police on 101.
Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
