THE NTIPDU1 (National Training Inspectorate for Professional Dog Users) reports two courses accredited by Skills for Security2 (SfS): level two award, in general purpose security dog and handler team; and level three detection dog and handler team, a generic award covering all detection disciplines. The two bodies report that this is the beginning of a long list of courses that SfS will accredit. The Welshpool-based NTIPDU meanwhile welcomes new members, centres and instructors. Centres include Asset Watch International, a norther-based company with experienced trainer and instructor George Walters, a former police dog handler of 30 years. Inquest Canine Detection, based in Manchester, recently had two members of staff accredited as trainers; X9K9 Ltd and Monshire, two Irish companies, are working towards centre status; Kathryn Jones FdSc AAB, of Clever Fox Canine Training and Security is accredited as a trainer after months of work; and Matthew Browning of Fitz Mill Canine Training School has also become an accredited trainer.
