A major political conference in the West Midlands next week has been cancelled due to security reasons .
The conference was due to be taking place at Millennium Point in Birmingham
Organisers of the West Midlands Local Politics Conference say they received information from a credible source that they could not ignore .
The high-profile event was due to take place at Millennium Point in Birmingham next Wednesday.
Speakers included West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Yvonne Mosquito, Express & Star editor Keith Harrison, Professor David Bailey of Aston University and Saquib Bhatti, President of the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce.
The event was billed as politically neutral and topics to be discussed included policing, the West Midlands Combined Authority and HS2.
However, a statement from the organisers, DB Event Management, said: Following a day of meetings and consultation, it is with regret that the decision has been made to cancel the upcoming West Midlands Local Politics Conference 2016 due to security reasons.
We are unable to disclose full details of the reasons behind this decision at the moment, however the difficult conclusion has been made with trusted advice and a level of concern that we could not ignore.
“We are extremely disappointed that the event is unable to go ahead however we hope to rearrange the conference for a future date in the next few months.
Tickets for the event were priced up to 106 and it was due to attract a large number of high-profile West Midlands figures.
The organisers had billed the event as a chance to hear from individuals from across the political spectrum highlighting both current issues and promoting the positive contributions to local communities.
Mr Harrison said: I m disappointed the conference has been postponed, but fully understand the need to react responsibly to information received and security concerns.
