College closed in security alert after ‘threats made against pupils and staff’

A college has been closed in a security alert after it received ‘threats to pupils and staff’.

Staff from Wyke College in Hull called police at around 8.25am this morning and students were told to evacuate the building.

School buses carrying students were also ordered to turn around.

It is understood the threats were contained in an e-mail sent to the college.

Humberside Police1 said it is now investigating the incident.

A spokesman said: “Humberside Police take all threats seriously and will investigate the incident.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the College will be closed today . Any updates will be posted onto our website.

“As a precautionary measure the college have taken the decision to close the college while a fully investigation is carried out.

“It is not thought that there is a threat to the safety of the staff, students or public, however Humberside Police officers have been deployed to the location to provide reassurance and complete an investigation into the threats received.”

The force later tweeted the e-mail is thought to be “one of a number of hoax emails sent to educational facilities around the world”.

The college tweeted this morning: “Due to unforeseen circumstances the College will be closed today .

Any updates will be posted onto our website.”

A text parents received from the school this morning said: “College is closed today due to a security alert . The College is dealing with this . Please make your way home as best you can.”

One parent tweeted: “Wyke College closed due to a security alert , my daughter is on her way home.”

Another said: “Code red @WykeCollege5 ?

Buses turned away – students sent home #wykecollege”.
