Police are searching for a man accused in the shooting death of a security guard during a robbery late last year in southwest Houston.
Jonathan Vasquez, 21, is one of two people charged with capital murder in the slaying of 71-year-old Saul Cruz . The other person charged, Daniel Moreno, 22, has been arrested.
Authorities said both men attacked Cruz about 4:10 a.m . Dec .

Cruz, police said, was sitting in his car outside a gas station/convenience store while he was on-duty when Vazquez and Moreno ambushed him, walking toward him from behind his car and firing gunshots at him . The pair had no prior confrontation with Cruz.
Moreno and Vasquez, police said, robbed Cruz of his handgun and ran . Cruz died at the scene.
Police said a Crimestoppers tip led investigators to identify Vasquez and Moreno as suspects in the case .
Moreno was arrested on Dec .
28.
So far, Vasquez has eluded capture.
During an HPD news conference about the case Thursday, Cruz’s family asked anyone who had information to contact police .
Cruz’s granddaughter, Rosario Henriquez, said her family has struggled with her grandfather’s loss.
“He was the joy in our family,” she said.
Another of Cruz’s granddaughters, Brianna Henriquez, said her grandfather was a kind man.
“He was a great, loyal person,” she said. “Whatever you needed, he would be there for you.”
Anyone with information about Vasquez’s whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713 308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713 222-TIPS.
