Girl Warns Of Dangers After Lip Fillers She Got To Look Like Kylie …

A British teacher has warned of the dangers of getting lip fillers from unregistered clinics after a botched job resulted in her needing corrective surgery.

Amelia Greville, a 24-year-old originally from Worcestershire, lives in Thailand and was excited when she came across a deal on Groupon for a clinic claiming to be offering Juv derm lip fillers. As the same brand of filler used by Kylie Jenner1, the Daily Mail2 report that she thought it was too good an offer to pass up and immediately snapped up the deal.

Unfortunately things didn’t go to plan and while Amelia was initially happy with the results, after a couple of months passed she developed wart-like swellings on her lips. This turned out to be a build up of silicone that resulted from an illegal form of filler the clinic had used in place of the named brand advertised, and which now needs corrective surgery to sort out.

Not in the financial position to be able to afford the surgery, Amelia has since set up a Go Fund Me3 where she explains exactly how what she thought would be non-permanent fillers have actually affected her life much more seriously.

As real Juv derm fillers like Kylie’s are reversible wih an injection and naturally dissolve after about 6 months anyway, Amelia hoped they would sort themselves out on their own.

But after she visited a second clinic she found out that the fillers she had been given actually contain silicone – a type of filler that are both illegal in Thailand and which are not FDA approved.

Describing the changes in her lips, she writes: “Around 2 months after having the filler injections, I began to develop hard lumps in my lips. They protruded out of the skin and not only made my lips look unsightly, but also were painful and very uncomfortable.

“I went back to the clinic and asked to have the Juv derm dissolved. I had done plenty of research, and this should have been possible with one injection – the filler would be absorbed by my body within 24 hours.

The next day, there was no change.”

It was when she went for a second opinion that Amelia received some bad news and she recalls: “The doctor at this clinic was immediately concerned that in fact, I had never had Juv derm filler injected into my lips at all, and this could be some kind of fake, cheap filler. Nevertheless they tried to give me a hyaluronidase injection to dissolve the lumps. Again, nothing happened.

“Since then, the second doctor I spoke to contacted the Juv derm supplier in Thailand to check whether they have ever had an order from this clinic; they confirmed, they have not.”

Now facing a surgery costing 1500 to have a fat graft and lip reconstruction, Amelia has set up a page hoping to help get things funded by members of the public.

“Currently I simply cannot afford this, but with your help I can get the surgery as soon as possible,” she writes, also explaining she hopes it will enable her to prove the fillers she was given were not legit. “I need the surgery to help with the major discomfort and pain I feel in my lips, and the lack of confidence it has given me.”

So if you are considering getting any kind of cosmetic procedure done, especially when you’re abroad, it’s always worth thoroughly investigating the clinic you are intending to use.

There’s no harm in asking to see their official accrediation and checking with health care regulators that they are an approved clinic either, is there?

Update: Amelia’s now reached her target to get her lip surgery after her appeal on social media.

Hurrah.
