(LON:GAL, CVE:GAL) revealed what it described as encouraging results from its new licence areas in the Republic of Ireland.

The block is around 33 kilometres from the company s Omagh gold mine, which received planning permission in June.

Previous fieldwork on licence number 4034 returned some interesting gold grades.

The latest exploration focused on licence 3235 and specifically what it described as distinct magnetic and conductivity anomalies .

Instead of gold, Galantas geologists found chromium and nickel in outcrop, float rock and stream sediments.

Results ranged from 1,800 grams per tonne and 1,960 grams of nickel and 1,680 grams to 1,760 grams of chromium.

Chief executive Roland Phelps said: “I am delighted with these early stage results.

Whilst our main focus is on expanding the resource base for our Omagh gold property and developing the recently permitted underground mine, these results demonstrate the high overall prospectivity of the large licence package Galantas has assembled and the strong technical ability of the Omagh team in obtaining results of potential importance.”
